Delhi’s New Chief Secretary: Who is Rajiv Verma?

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has designated Rajiv Verma as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi, with the transfer taking effect on October 1st. Verma, a 1992-batch IAS officer, will succeed Dharmendra, who is retiring on September 30th. Prior to this appointment, Verma was serving in Chandigarh. He completed his graduation in Computer Science from Roorkee University and obtained an MTech degree from IIT. Verma began his career in Mizoram and has worked in key ministries like defense, finance, urban development, health, and transport. He was the Deputy Commissioner of Delhi from 2000 to 2002 and also served as Additional Secretary in the Urban Development Department and Planning and Program Implementation Department. He has also served as Principal Secretary and Commissioner in Delhi, and as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defense. His experience includes serving as an advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator and holding additional charge of Chandigarh Housing Board.
