The Delhi government is implementing stringent measures to address air quality, starting with the seizure of older vehicles from July 1st. These measures, enforced by the CAQM, focus on vehicles at fuel stations and public locations. Owners of vehicles designated as End of Life (EOL) will be penalized. Specifically, petrol vehicles over 15 years old and diesel vehicles over 10 years old from the date of registration will be considered EOL. These vehicles will be prohibited from obtaining fuel. Impounded vehicles will be directed to registered scrapping centers. Owners wanting to relocate their vehicle outside of Delhi must obtain a No Objection Certificate within one year of the vehicle’s expiry. Five districts in the NCR area will implement similar regulations from November 1st, with fuel stations denying fuel to EOL vehicles beginning April 1, 2026. Enforcement authorities will conduct regular drives to remove EOL vehicles, submitting daily reports to the department. Delhi’s EOL vehicle inventory is substantial, with a large proportion being two-wheelers.
