Sophie Devine, the captain of New Zealand, is set to retire from One Day Internationals after the 2025 World Cup. Her fans will continue to enjoy her dynamic presence in the T20 format.

“It feels like the right time for me to start stepping away,” Devine stated. She also mentioned, “I feel very fortunate to have NZC’s support in finding a solution that means I can still give to the White Ferns.”

Devine emphasized her commitment: “It’s important that everyone knows I’m focused and dedicated to giving this group everything I can before I step away.” She is looking forward to playing her part in the next six to nine months.

The 35-year-old all-rounder is retiring from ODIs after the upcoming 50-over World Cup scheduled for later this year in India and Sri Lanka. She will continue her career in T20 internationals with a flexible playing contract with New Zealand Cricket. Devine’s name will not be included in the central contract list for the women’s side. She will remain as captain through the World Cup before a new captain takes over for upcoming ODI matches beginning with New Zealand’s home summer.
