President Donald Trump has indicated a significant advancement in efforts to end the Ukraine-Russia war, stating that a peace deal is “closer than ever.” His comments followed critical discussions held in Berlin, involving European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. From the White House, Trump emphasized the strong coalition of support from European nations, including Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Poland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and the Netherlands, working alongside the United States.

“We are going to get it done. I think we are closer now, and they will tell you they are closer now with numerous conversations with President Putin of Russia. And I think we are closer now than we have ever been. We want to save a lot of lives,” Trump stated. He acknowledged the complexities of the negotiation process, particularly the need to align opposing demands. “At this moment, Russia wants to get it, but the problem is they will want to end it, and all of a sudden they want it, and Ukraine will want to get it ended and all of a sudden they won’t. We have to get them on the same page,” he explained.

The intensive diplomatic efforts in Berlin, which included the US, European powers, NATO officials, and President Zelenskyy, were aimed at finding a resolution to the ongoing military conflict. According to reports, European officials have committed to participating in security guarantees for Ukraine, although negotiations over disputed territories present a major challenge. Earlier, President Zelenskyy had suggested that Ukraine might be open to deferring its NATO ambitions if offered strong security assurances from the West. The situation remains tense, with ongoing reports of military actions, reinforcing the importance of these high-stakes peace negotiations.
