Northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are on high alert due to the approaching Cyclone Ditwah. Having already wrought havoc in Sri Lanka, claiming over 150 lives and leaving many missing, the storm’s potential impact on India is a serious concern. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, forecasting heavy rains and strong winds across the affected regions. The cyclone is expected to navigate close to the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coastline within the next 24 hours. In anticipation of the storm, well-equipped SDRF and NDRF teams have been strategically deployed to ensure swift disaster response. India is also extending its support to Sri Lanka, which is grappling with the aftermath of Ditwah. Through ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’, the Indian Air Force has sent transport planes with relief materials, and specialized NDRF rescue personnel and their search dogs are on the ground in Sri Lanka to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.
