India’s DRDO has significantly boosted the nation’s defence capabilities by conducting two consecutive successful tests of the Pralay missile. The tests were carried out at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the tests on Tuesday, highlighting their importance in verifying the missile’s operational range.

The tests, performed on July 28 and 29, 2025, saw the missiles precisely following their designated flight paths and hitting their intended targets. Data from tracking sensors and equipment on the test ship confirmed that all systems functioned as expected.

The Pralay missile is an indigenous, solid-fuelled, quasi-ballistic missile equipped with a sophisticated guidance and navigation system. It is capable of carrying multiple warheads. Its development was a collaborative effort involving DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), other laboratories, and industry partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited.

The tests were observed by top DRDO scientists, members of the Indian Air Force and Army, and industry partners. The Defence Minister congratulated DRDO, the armed forces, and industry on this accomplishment, stating that the missile system will significantly improve the army’s technological capabilities. DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat congratulated the teams involved, noting that the success of these Phase-1 tests paves the way for the missile system to be inducted into the Army soon.
