The joyous atmosphere of Vijayadashami was significantly dampened by heavy rainfall across Delhi and the surrounding areas. The downpour affected numerous Ramlila performances and resulted in the cancellation of several key events, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned appearance at the Ravan Dahan.

Enthusiastic crowds had gathered at various locations, including Ramlila grounds, anticipating the traditional burning of Ravana. However, the persistent rain disrupted the festivities. The Prime Minister was scheduled to participate in a ceremony in the IP Extension area, which had to be called off. The event, planned for the Patparganj area, was scheduled to begin at 6 pm.

President Droupadi Murmu participated in the Vijayadashami celebrations held at the Red Fort grounds, organized by the Shri Dharmik Lila Committee. She took part in the symbolic burning of Ravana’s effigy by shooting an arrow. Sonia Gandhi’s plans to attend the Ravan Dahan were also cancelled due to the weather conditions. Additionally, the rain also impacted Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s participation in a Vijayadashami event in Pitampura.
