The Suzuki e-Vitara, a made-in-India all-electric compact SUV, has achieved a 4-star rating in the recent Euro NCAP crash tests. The results reveal a robust safety system, while also identifying some areas where improvements could be made. In the frontal offset test, the e-Vitara’s passenger compartment showed stability, with good ratings for the protection of front occupants’ knees and thighs. Good safety scores were also recorded for all body regions in the side impact test.
Nevertheless, in the full-width frontal test, the safety for rear passengers’ heads and chests was rated as medium, due to the forward movement experienced during the impact. The rear impact test provided more favorable outcomes. Whiplash protection was assessed as good for both the front and rear seats. The SUV also incorporates an advanced e-Call system and multi-collision braking, enhancing its safety features.
Maruti Suzuki India has begun exporting the e-Vitara, signaling a major step forward in its global electric vehicle ambitions. The inaugural shipment, containing over 2,900 vehicles, departed from the Pipavav port in Gujarat in August, with destinations including 12 European countries, namely the UK, Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden.
The e-Vitara is being manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. This facility will function as the global production hub for this model. The car has previously been presented at the India Mobility Global Expo in Milan and New Delhi. The e-Vitara is built upon Suzuki’s innovative Heartect-e electric platform.
Maruti Suzuki is also planning to launch the e-Vitara in India. The company intends to export this model to over 100 countries in the future. Although the specific features and specifications for the Indian market have not been fully announced, the company has confirmed that the car will be available in Delta, Zeta, and Alpha variants and will have a range of approximately 500 km on a full charge.
