Indonesia’s Papua province was shaken by a substantial 6.7 magnitude earthquake on Thursday. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) provided the details, including a focal depth of 70 kilometers. The epicenter was identified around 200 kilometers from Abepura, a key location in the region. Importantly, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has confirmed that no tsunami alert has been issued for the affected areas. The precise coordinates were registered at 2.31 degrees south latitude and 138.86 degrees east longitude. While the earthquake’s strength is notable, its distance from populated areas and the absence of a tsunami warning are points of relief for the region.
