A powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck Jalalabad, Afghanistan, resulting in a devastating loss of life, with over 800 confirmed deaths and over 2,500 injuries. The disaster has overwhelmed the local healthcare system, creating critical shortages of doctors and essential supplies. Rescue efforts are hampered due to the extent of the damage. The Taliban administration has issued an appeal for international assistance to address the urgent needs of those affected.

Kunar province suffered the most severe impacts. One resident, Sadiqullah, recounted the terrifying experience of the quake, including the rescue of his children and the tragic loss of his family. He was trapped in the wreckage for hours. Mohammadi from Kunar emphasized the continuing fear of aftershocks and the urgent requirement for ambulances, medical personnel, and comprehensive assistance. At Nangarhar hospital, many patients are still traumatized. The hospital is treating a large number of victims and faces critical resource limitations.
