Rahul Gandhi has intensified scrutiny of the Election Commission of India (ECI) following allegations of irregularities in the Maharashtra elections. He has criticized the ECI’s response as inadequate, demanding a more transparent approach to address his concerns. Gandhi urged the ECI to release consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls and post-5 pm CCTV footage from polling booths in Maharashtra to substantiate its claims. The ECI had previously responded to Gandhi’s initial accusations, labeling them as unsubstantiated and stating that it had addressed the concerns in a previous reply. The commission also condemned the spread of misinformation and attempts to defame its integrity. Gandhi had alleged that the Maharashtra assembly elections were rigged, indicating a potential pattern in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde criticized Gandhi’s statements, saying that such claims were baseless.
