The Finance Ministry on Monday launched the twelfth instalment of Rs 6,000 crore to states to fulfill the GST compensation shortfall, taking the whole quantity launched to this point beneath this window to Rs 72,000 crore. The ministry in an announcement mentioned it has launched the twelfth weekly instalment of Rs 6,000 crore to the states to fulfill the GST compensation shortfall.
Out of this, an quantity of Rs 5,516.60 crore has been launched to 23 states and Rs 483.40 crore has been launched to the three Union Territories (UT) with Legislative Assembly (Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir & Puducherry), who’re members of the GST Council.
The quantity has been borrowed this week at an rate of interest of 4.43 per cent.

“Till now, 65 per cent of the total estimated GST compensation shortfall has been released to the States & UT with Legislative Assembly. Out of this, an amount of Rs 65,582.96 crore has been released to the States and an amount of Rs 6,417.04 crore has been released to the 3 UTs with Legislative Assembly,” the ministry mentioned.
Thus, the whole quantity launched to this point in 12 instalments is Rs 72,000 crore at a mean rate of interest of 4.70 per cent.
The remaining 5 states — Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim — would not have a niche in income on account of GST implementation, the assertion mentioned.
In addition to offering funds by way of the particular borrowing window to fulfill the shortfall in income on account of GST implementation, the Centre has additionally granted further borrowing permission equal to 0.50 per cent of Gross States Domestic Product (GSDP) to the states to assist them in mobilising further monetary sources.
