ITR submitting deadline prolonged until 31 Dec

The income-tax (I-T) division on Thursday prolonged the date of submitting earnings tax returns (ITRs) and report of audits to 31 December, from the earlier deadline of 30 September.

The extension was made in view of the technical glitches that taxpayers and professionals have been reporting for the reason that launch of the brand new e-filing portal. “On consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers in submitting of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) & Audit stories for AY 2021-22 underneath the IT Act, 1961, CBDT additional extends the due dates for submitting of ITRs & Audit stories for AY 21-22. Circular No.17/2021 dated 09.09.2021 issued,” the I-T division tweeted, together with the official notification.

This is the third time the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has prolonged the date for submitting I-T returns for evaluation 12 months 2021-22.

The date for submitting belated ITR returns was additionally prolonged by a month from 31 December to 31 January 2022 and stories from accountants on worldwide transactions or specified home transactions underneath Section 92E can now be submitted by 31 January 2022, prolonged from the earlier due date of 30 November.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 23 August requested Infosys, which has constructed the brand new e-portal web site of the I-T division, to repair the glitches till 15 September.

Sitharaman “demanded that the problems confronted by taxpayers on present functionalities of the portal needs to be resolved by the staff by 15 September, 2021, in order that taxpayers and professionals can work seamlessly on the portal”.

The I-T division on Thursday stated the variety of technical points on the brand new ITR portal are being progressively addressed and 1.19 crore ITRs for the 2020-21 monetary 12 months have already been filed thus far.

“Quite a lot of technical points are being progressively addressed and there was a constructive development mirrored within the statistics of the assorted filings on the portal…. 1.19 crore ITRs for AY 2021-22 have been filed,” CBDT said. “Of these, over 76.2 lakh taxpayers have used the online utility of the portal to file the returns,” it stated.
