Ola to chop 200 engineering jobs
In a recent spherical of layoffs, cab aggregator and electrical two-wheeler producer, Ola has handed over pink slips to 200 of its workers from its 2,000-strong engineering workforce. Most of those workers have been engaged on creating totally different features of apps. The firm termed the transfer as “a restructuring exercise” to minimise redundancy.
In a press release on Monday, the corporate stated, “Ola Electric has been increasing its focus on non-software engineering domains with a clear focus on building engineering and R&D capabilities across — vehicle, cell, battery, manufacturing and automation, autonomous engineering streams and others.”
“In light of these efforts, the company is centralising operations and is undertaking a restructuring exercise to minimise redundancy and build a strong lateral structure that strengthens relevant roles and functions.”
The Bhavish Aggarwal-led firm had earlier laid off round 1,000 workers because of the closure of its pre-owned automotive enterprise Ola Cars and fast commerce unit Ola Dash. Apart from Ola, many different start-ups, primarily within the edtech sector, have been shedding workers since early this 12 months as funding has dried up.
