The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a crackdown on illegal foreign exchange trading in Goa, specifically targeting an operation within the Mapusa Municipal Market. On September 26, 2025, the ED conducted a raid on the Loja Shamu shop, seizing substantial amounts of foreign and Indian currency, supporting documents, and digital evidence. The operation began following the seizure of about $35,000 USD, or roughly 29 lakh rupees, in foreign currency by Goa Airport Customs. The investigation subsequently revealed links to an illegal forex network operating in the Mapusa Market, leading the ED to intervene. The raid resulted in the recovery of approximately 3 lakh in foreign currency, 13 lakh in Indian cash, records of illegal forex dealings, and two mobile phones.
