The Education Department in Durg district has suspended two teachers, Prafulla Sahu and Seema Sharma, from their positions at the Government Secondary School Mahuda. The suspensions were imposed due to serious allegations and confirmed misconduct, including negligence and irresponsible behavior. The department’s decision followed an investigation triggered by a complaint from a teacher, Shruti Mishra. Mishra alleged that Prafulla Sahu used a student’s mobile phone during exam duty to make videos and take photographs. Furthermore, Sahu was accused of making inappropriate remarks during the prayer assembly and playing the harmonium in the classroom, disruptive behaviors that negatively impacted the school environment. A two-member investigative committee was appointed to look into the matter. The committee’s findings confirmed that Prafulla Sahu had admitted to the charges. It was also found that he and Seema Sharma would spend time together in a separate room, away from the staff room, which fostered a negative environment within the school. Seema Sharma’s role as the in-charge of the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) program also came under scrutiny. She was accused of failing to provide adequate and nutritious meals to the students, in accordance with the required menu. The investigation concluded that the conduct of both teachers violated the Chhattisgarh Civil Services Conduct Rules, 1965, constituting serious misconduct. Consequently, the Education Department suspended both teachers under the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1966. During their suspension, Prafulla Sahu will be under the jurisdiction of the Block Education Officer, Gunderdehi, Balod district, and Seema Sharma will report to the Principal of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Dhamdha, Durg district. They will receive a living allowance during this period. The Education Department clarified that such instances of indiscipline and negligence would not be tolerated, reiterating the importance of a conducive environment for children’s education and development and promising stringent action against any form of irresponsible behavior.
