Elephant Worth One Crore Stolen in Palamu District, Search Underway

A high-value elephant theft has occurred in Palamu district, with the mahout believed to be the culprit. The elephant, valued at one crore rupees, is now missing, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The investigation is being aided by a tracking chip implanted in the elephant, which the forest department and police are utilizing to locate the animal. Narendra Kumar Shukla, from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, filed a police report at the Medininagar Sadar police station on Friday. Shukla stated he received the elephant named Jaymati from Sangam Lal. He brought the elephant to Jharkhand because of a lack of resources in his own village. He then entrusted the care of the elephant to Munna Pandey and Munna Pathak, both residents of Mirzapur. The two became friends with Tarkeshwar Nath, the owner of another elephant. They reached Jorkat in the Medininagar Sadar police station area of Palamu with the elephant. Shukla said he reached Palamu on August 11. He found the elephant and mahout in the Jorkat area. He returned on August 13 and discovered both were missing. A month later he filed the FIR. The Sadar police station in-charge, Lalji, confirmed on Saturday that Shukla reported the elephant was worth one crore rupees. An investigation is ongoing, and an FIR has been registered. The forest department is using the information from the elephant’s chip to find it.
