Netflix finds itself at the center of a raging storm as its film ‘Ghusskhor Pandit’ faces boycott calls from politicians and priests alike. The title, translating to ‘Bribe-Taking Pandit’, has offended Brahmin pride and Sanatan values, prompting Union MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh’s public condemnation.
Posting on social media, Singh termed it ‘deeply unfortunate’ and an attack via ‘casteist slurs’. He fully backed UP Police’s crackdown ordered by CM Yogi Adityanath, stressing that such provocations undermine India’s social fabric.
In Vrindavan, saints organized vehement protests. ‘Sanatan Dharma faces relentless attacks through films that mock our traditions,’ they declared. They invoked pandits’ timeless legacy – advisors to royalty, anchors of rituals – now reduced to caricatures for publicity stunts.
‘Producers pick controversial titles for buzz, but at what cost? Insulting pandits insults every Hindu ceremony,’ a senior saint remarked. The community demands an instant ban and prosecution of those responsible.
This clash pits artistic liberty against communal harmony, with escalating voices questioning Netflix’s content curation in sensitive markets like India.
