In the landscape of Bollywood in 1998, Ajay Devgn emerged victorious in a box office showdown against the Deol brothers. His film, ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha,’ a romantic comedy featuring Kajol, proved to be a major success, earning 38 crores worldwide. Released on July 24th, the film, made on a budget of 7 crores, secured its place as the second-highest-grossing film of the year. The Deol brothers, Sunny and Bobby, faced a contrasting fate, with Bobby’s ‘Soldier’ and ‘Kareeb’ underperforming compared to Devgn’s hit. Sunny Deol’s ‘Zor’ and ‘Salaakhen’, the latter of which was a hit, also fell short of the success of Devgn’s film. While Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ topped the charts, Devgn’s film showcased his significant box office appeal.
