Just days away from its February 13 theatrical debut, Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘O Romeo’ is stealing the spotlight not only for its riveting plot but for an inspiring behind-the-scenes tale. Bollywood talents Vikrant Massey and Tamannaah Bhatia have foregone all fees to be part of this ambitious venture, as revealed by the director himself.
Drawing from Hussain Zaidi’s ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’, the film casts Shahid Kapoor as the formidable Hussain Ustra, with Triptii Dimri as Sapna in this tale of crime, romance, and power. The lineup includes Avinash Tiwary, Nana Patekar, Farida Jalal, Disha Patani, plus Massey’s special appearance and Bhatia’s crucial role.
Bhardwaj highlighted Massey’s loyalty: years ago, as an aspiring actor influenced by ‘Maqbool’, he pledged his participation. Post-’12th Fail’, he upheld it, committing 8-9 intense shooting days for a sequence that anchors the story’s depth.
Bhatia’s contribution shines through her selflessness. Her character’s small screen time belies its impact—a plot twist that reshapes everything. Without hesitation, she joined, embraced workshops, and extended her schedule to 12 days, all pro bono. Bhardwaj called her commitment ‘pure gold’.
Nadiodwala Grandson Entertainment’s 75-80 crore production has OTT and satellite deals locked in, signaling strong commercial viability. ‘O Romeo’ weaves a complex web of underworld intrigue and heartfelt emotion, promising Bhardwaj’s signature intensity. In an industry often criticized for commercialism, this story of artists prioritizing art over money restores faith and heightens expectations for a memorable cinematic experience.
