SC Cracks Down on Kapoor Family Trust Dispute Tactics

Tensions in the Sanjay Kapoor family empire reached a new peak as the Supreme Court stepped in decisively. The apex court mandated a hands-off approach from all sides in the property and trust wrangle, barring moves that could scuttle the mediation underway.

The bench, led by Justice J.B. Pardiwala, announced it would track mediation developments closely. It explicitly shielded the process from RBI pressures on regulatory compliance, ensuring focus remains on family reconciliation.

At the heart of the clash: Rani Kapoor’s plea to block a May 18 board meeting called via notice from Raghuvanshi Investment Private Limited. She fears decisions there could alter control over prime family holdings, undermining the court-directed talks started May 7 targeting the RK Family Trust.

Priya Kapoor’s faction defended the corporate actions as fully compliant with RBI directives and director appointment rules, dismissing interference claims as baseless.

In a moment of wisdom, the judge counseled: ‘We enter the world with nothing and exit likewise, souls alone in tow. Resolve this with open hearts before mediators, not resentment.’

Rani’s suit specifically targets Priya and others’ roles in trust matters. By imposing restraint, the Supreme Court signals zero tolerance for tactics that prolong acrimony, potentially averting a protracted legal saga over one of India’s prominent business legacies.
