During this time, Facebook’s arguments could not stand in the High Court. At the same time, HC said that Facebook cannot step back from its responsibility. The petitioner’s lawyer cited the Supreme Court’s decision in the High Court. He said that the Supreme Court has also held Facebook responsible for such video comments.
On Tuesday, Meta (Facebook) argued in the High Court that Facebook is an electronic digital portal, which does not have any kind of control over its content. Therefore, Facebook cannot take information about any material posted by any other person or can remove it. Not only this, it was also argued by Facebook that Ranjit Singh Patel does not have any right to present a petition before the Honorable Court regarding any other person.

It was also argued by Facebook that as per the rules, Facebook has no responsibility. On which senior advocate Pankaj Dubey, on behalf of the petitioner, said that Facebook cannot escape its responsibility by arguing like this. Senior advocate Pankaj Dubey, citing a 2022 decision of the Supreme Court in this matter, has said that the Supreme Court has given clear instructions in this matter that social media or Facebook will be responsible for such content or derogatory things. After which Facebook accepted its responsibility and withdrew its petition.

Actually, a petition has been filed in the High Court by Ranjit Singh Patel against the unrestrained material comments and videos on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube against Pandit Dhirendra Shastri of Bageshwar Dham. In which an appeal has been made to the High Court that the post and video against Dhirendra Shastri should be removed. Regarding this matter, on December 4, 2023, the High Court had given an order that such objectionable things against Dhirendra Shastri should be removed from social media Facebook Twitter.
