In a concerning development, Vijayeta Basu, sister to actress Bipasha Basu, has become the latest victim of cyber fraud, losing a significant Rs 1.8 lakh. The scam involved a fake parcel delivery notification that tricked her into revealing her credit card details.

The incident began with a text message on September 27, 2025, stating that her parcel delivery had failed twice and requesting confirmation of details. Following a link in the message, Vijayeta was directed to a phishing website where she entered her credit card information to pay an alleged delivery fee. This fraudulent website was designed to harvest sensitive financial data from unsuspecting users.

Shortly after, Vijayeta learned the devastating truth when her bank alerted her to a large transaction. Her credit card had been used to book a stay at the Hyatt Regency hotel in France, with the charge amounting to EUR 1,730.76, equivalent to approximately Rs 1.79 lakh. The attackers wasted no time in exploiting the compromised card.

To prevent further losses, Vijayeta immediately contacted her bank to block the card. She then reported the incident to the cybercrime portal and subsequently filed a formal complaint at the NM Joshi Marg Police Station in Mumbai on November 2, 2025. The police have initiated an investigation and registered the case under the Information Technology Act. This event serves as a critical warning about the prevalence of online scams that mimic legitimate services and the necessity of verifying all communication before sharing personal or financial information.
