Following in the footsteps of Ravi Shastri, Nasser Hussain has criticized the Indian cricket team’s fielding. Hussain believes India’s fielding allowed England to remain in the game, specifically during the final session of Day 3. He felt that India’s batting success should have translated into greater control of the match, but fielding errors undermined their efforts.
Poor fielding by India’s players allowed Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook to extend their innings throughout Day 2 and Day 3. This ultimately resulted in England scoring 465 runs, leaving India with a narrow six-run lead.
Hussain stated, “I think India will be a little disappointed. They had a collapse of 7-41 in their innings and the England score should then have been a lot less.”
He further added, “That last little session tonight was vital for them in that they didn’t let England back into the game even more.”
On Day 3, Jasprit Bumrah claimed five wickets (5/83), helping restrict England to 465, with India leading by six runs. Ollie Pope scored 106 and Harry Brook scored 99. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj took three and two wickets for India. In India’s second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early, but a solid 66-run partnership between KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan rescued the team. India ended the day at 90 for 2, increasing their lead to 96 runs.
