Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s official UK journey began with a late-night arrival in London on Wednesday, greeted by an exuberant crowd of Jharkhand expatriates and scholars. The warm reception underscored the strong ties binding the diaspora to their roots.

Just days after spearheading Jharkhand’s pitch at the Davos World Economic Forum—inviting multinational firms to invest—Soren shared the welcoming moments online. ‘The love from my people has left me humbled and without words,’ he shared, offering thanks via ‘Johaar.’

Traveling with him is MLA and spouse Kalpana Soren. On January 23, Soren breaks new ground as the first from his state to lecture at Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government. His address will explore sustainable pathways for tribal and resource-abundant regions, drawing from Jharkhand’s journey.

Expect discussions on green industrialization, responsible mining practices, and equitable investment strategies. Contributors include Prof. Alpa Shah of social anthropology fame at All Souls College, and Prof. Maya Tudor, authority on politics and policy.

Central to it all is Jharkhand’s ethos of development attuned to nature’s rhythms, actively pursued by the government. Soren’s excitement is palpable as he prepares to globalize this vision from one of the world’s top academic stages.

This engagement promises to spotlight Jharkhand’s unique model, fostering global partnerships, innovative policies, and sustainable futures.
