Bajrang Singh, a former NSG commando, has been arrested by a joint team of Rajasthan ATS and ANTF for masterminding a cannabis smuggling operation that spanned Rajasthan, Odisha, and Telangana. Singh, who served in the unit that responded to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was apprehended in Ratangarh, Churu, with 200 kilograms of cannabis. Singh, a resident of the Sikar district in Rajasthan, had been sought by the police for a considerable period. A reward of 25,000 rupees was offered for information leading to his capture. The arrest was part of ‘Operation Ganjane,’ a combined effort by the Rajasthan ATS and Anti-Narcotics Task Force. Intelligence reports indicated he exclusively employed Odia cooks, providing key information that led to his apprehension. The two-month operation benefited from information from the cooks’ relatives. Following retirement from the NSG, Singh allegedly transitioned into drug trafficking after experiencing political challenges and rapidly became a significant cannabis trafficker. Law enforcement officials anticipate the arrest will hinder drug smuggling, specifically the large-scale illicit drug trade from Odisha and Telangana to Rajasthan. Singh joined the NSG after completing his 10th grade and was a part of the specialized commando team that responded to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. His involvement in organized drug trafficking started after his retirement in 2021.
