Sholay, a cornerstone of Indian cinema, is approaching a major milestone, marking 50 years since its release. The film holds a special place in the hearts of many, evoking strong emotions and cherished memories. On August 15, 2025, the film will celebrate this significant anniversary.

Such was the film’s impact that even when re-released at the box office after several years, it garnered substantial earnings, with audiences eager to see it in theaters repeatedly.

Interestingly, there’s a lesser-known connection between Sholay and the later film 3 Idiots. Sharman Joshi, who played Raju in 3 Idiots, had a link to Sholay through his father.

Sharman Joshi’s father, Arvind Joshi, had a cameo in the 1975 film Sholay. He portrayed the elder son of Thakur, played by Sanjeev Kumar, in this iconic film. His appearance was during a flashback scene.

In the film, Arvind Joshi’s character meets his demise by Gabbar’s gunfire. This scene is regarded as a turning point in Sholay, triggering a major shift in the narrative. Arvind’s character had a relatively brief role.

Arvind Joshi was involved in Gujarati and Bollywood films, with his contributions to the theater world being fondly remembered. His son, Sharman Joshi, is a well-known Bollywood figure, appearing in numerous movies, including 3 Idiots. Arvind passed away in 2021, and his son now carries on his acting legacy.
