The Ramayana’s enduring appeal has seen countless actors step into Lord Ram’s sandals, each leaving an indelible mark. As we reflect on the Ram Mandir’s historic pran pratishtha, these stars stand out for embodying the ideal man.

Pioneering in South cinema, N.T. Rama Rao’s Ram roles in ‘Lava Kusa,’ ‘Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddham,’ and others defined devotional cinema. His legacy influenced family members like Jr. NTR, who portrayed young Ram in the critically acclaimed ‘Bala Ramayanam.’

This 1997 gem, directed by Gunasekhar, clinched a National Award and featured Smita Madhav as Sita, making complex tales accessible to children.

Other Telugu stalwarts include Shobhan Babu in ‘Sampoorna Ramayanam’ (1972), Nandamuri Balakrishna in ‘Sri Rama Rajyam,’ and Suman in the hit ‘Sri Ramadasu’ (2006). Each brought unique fervor to the role.

In the North, Arun Govil’s ‘Ramayan’ (1980s) is unparalleled. The serial’s retelecasts still draw millions, cementing Govil as the people’s Ram.

Jeetendra’s ‘Lav Kush’ (1987) ventured into film, with Jaya Prada as Sita. It explored later chapters but struggled at the turnstiles.

Television revivals like Gurmeet Choudhary’s ‘Ramayan’ (2008-09) introduced Ram to new viewers. His award-winning performance, complemented by Debina Banerjee, marked a career highlight.

Ashish Sharma’s ‘Siya Ke Ram’ emphasized Sita’s perspective alongside Ram’s journey, with Madirakshi Mundle and Karan Suchak adding depth.

Prabhas’s ‘Adipurush’ (2023) was a visual feast, starring Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan. Mixed reception aside, it showcased Ramayana’s adaptability to contemporary cinema.

Through these interpretations, Lord Ram’s lessons of virtue and valor continue to resonate, fostering cultural continuity.
