In the East Singhbhum district’s Ghatsila Assembly by-election, counting is in its final phase, and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Somesh Chandra Soren has established a decisive lead. Following the 17th round of ballot counting, Soren is ahead with 89,251 votes, outpacing his main opponent, BJP’s Babu Lal Soren, who has received 56,445 votes. This substantial lead strongly indicates an impending victory for JMM, prompting immediate celebrations among party members. The third position is held by Ramdas Murmu of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, with 11,235 votes. Candidates from independent and minor political factions have performed poorly, with many facing the prospect of losing their security deposits. Independent candidate Dr. Shrilal Kisku received 1,341 votes, and Panchanan Soren of the Bharat Adivasi Party garnered 901 votes. Notably, the NOTA option received 2,458 votes, which is more than the votes secured by a number of individual candidates. The JMM’s strong performance in Ghatsila is a key political event unfolding in the region.
