Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), delivered a significant address in Manipur, asserting the indispensable role of Hindu society in the world’s continued existence. “Without Hindus, the world will cease to exist,” Bhagwat declared, presenting Hindu civilization as an immortal force that has outlasted ancient empires like Greece, Egypt, and Rome. He described Hindu society as the custodian of dharma globally, suggesting that its persistence is due to a deeply ingrained societal network. His visit to Manipur, occurring after recent ethnic violence, also saw him reiterate his view on shared ancestry for all Indians, irrespective of religious affiliation. A key component of Bhagwat’s message was a powerful call for India to achieve complete economic self-reliance. He underscored that genuine national strength is multifaceted, requiring not only military and intellectual capabilities but also significant economic independence. “Our economy must be completely self-reliant,” Bhagwat stated, advocating for a future where India is not beholden to any external economic power. Drawing on historical precedents, he illustrated how determined societies can overcome entrenched challenges, referencing the eventual downfall of Naxalism and the sustained, multi-generational effort that led to India’s independence, emphasizing the importance of an unyielding national spirit.
