A mother-son duo has been apprehended by the police in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for a gold chain fraud. The pair is accused of swapping a fake gold bracelet for a real gold chain from a jeweler, causing a loss of 1.68 lakh rupees. The accused are Savita Singh (43), also known as Sapna or Sappo, and her son, Ishant Verma (23), also known as Anuj. Both are residents of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The fraudulent transaction took place at Dhadiwal Jewelers in Sadar Bazar, under the Kotwali police station’s purview. On September 9th, the suspects visited the shop. They requested a repair for a fake gold bracelet. When the jeweler said a repair wasn’t possible, they asked to exchange it for a gold chain. The jeweler, trusting their request, provided them with a gold chain of 13.880 grams, worth 1.68 lakh rupees. The pair then left with the chain.

After they left, the jeweler examined the bracelet and realized it was fake. They immediately reported the incident to the police.
The police registered a case and started an investigation. The Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit and the Kotwali police team joined forces, using CCTV footage to identify the suspects and the car they were using, ultimately leading to their arrest.

During the investigation, the suspects admitted to a previous similar crime at Ajay Jewelers in Bilaspur’s Sadar Bazar, where they had exchanged a fake bracelet for a gold chain.
