In a move set to benefit consumers, the government has reduced GST rates on select consumer electronics. Following a GST Council meeting on September 3rd, changes have been made to the GST structure. The 12% and 28% tax brackets have been removed, and only the 5% and 18% slabs will remain. As a result, items such as Smart TVs and Air Conditioners will become less expensive starting September 22nd.

Previously, a 28% GST was applicable to Smart TVs and air conditioners. The new regulations will see this rate reduced to 18%, leading to lower prices for these appliances. The aim is to ease the financial burden on the public, allowing for easier access to these products.

Let’s break down the price changes with detailed calculations. We will examine the price alterations for 43-inch and 55-inch TVs, as well as for air conditioners priced at ₹25,000 and ₹35,000. It’s important to note that the government did not change the GST slab for 32-inch TVs, and the reduced rate applies to TVs with screen sizes greater than 32 inches.
