In a significant step forward for India-US economic ties, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met US Ambassador Eric Garcetti and Senator Steve Daines in the national capital today. The rendezvous occurred against the backdrop of advanced bilateral trade discussions.

Post-meeting, Goyal took to X to laud the ‘meaningful exchange’ on strengthening people-to-people and strategic relations. Garcetti had earlier affirmed both nations’ commitment to trade while expanding cooperation across critical domains like security, counter-terror, energy, technology, academia, and public health.

Optimism surrounds the first-phase trade deal, with Secretary Agrawal stating it’s ‘quite close’ to fruition. Goyal’s recent video call with USTR Greer reflects ongoing team-level efforts to bridge gaps.

Parallelly, India eyes FTAs with the EU, where talks on 20 of 24 chapters are complete. With EU Presidents Costa and von der Leyen arriving for Republic Day on January 26, a January 27 summit could seal the pact by addressing final hurdles.

This multi-front diplomatic offensive highlights India’s proactive stance in weaving a network of trade alliances. Successful outcomes could spur exports, attract FDI, and drive sustainable growth, benefiting millions across sectors.
