The government of Bihar, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is taking a major step towards implementing Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of Gram Swaraj. This involves a project to build Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans across the state, as announced by the Building Construction Department.

The project includes the construction of 2,600 buildings, with 2,000 already under construction and tenders for the remaining 400 in progress. These buildings aim to bring all government services under one roof, providing a central location for village heads and panchayat officials.

These Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans will serve as secretariats, facilitating efficient administration at the panchayat level and supporting rural development initiatives. This is part of a broader effort by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to enhance governance and empower rural communities.

The two-story buildings will be equipped with all necessary facilities, including office spaces, courtrooms, storage areas, and meeting halls. The project considers the specific needs of flood-affected regions, with larger building footprints in these areas to provide better protection. The facilities will also include service centers, a post office, and residential quarters.

This initiative seeks to improve government efficiency, enhance transparency, and provide essential services for the rural population, thereby promoting overall development and fulfilling the vision of Gram Swaraj.
