Virendra Gahwai, Bilaspur. The Higher Education Department has issued an advertisement to make new appointments in place of professors working as guest lecturers in government colleges. Opposing this, about 500 guest lecturers posted in different government colleges of the state have filed separate petitions, citing the Supreme Court’s decision as well as the Chhattisgarh High Court’s order in the same matter earlier. The case was heard on Monday in a single bench of Justice Sachin Singh Rajput. After the hearing, the court has kept the appointment of the petitioner guest lecturer on hold by the High Court’s decision.

Let us tell you that after the completion of one year of service by the guest lecturers previously posted in the government colleges of the state, the Higher Education Department had issued an advertisement for new appointment in their place. Regarding this, the guest lecturers had already filed a writ petition. After hearing the case, the High Court cited the Supreme Court’s guideline, in which an order was issued regarding not keeping contract instead of contract or guest lecturer instead of guest lecturer. Due to this, the High Court had put a stay on the advertisement issued against the post of the petitioner. From then till the year 2023-24, the guest lecturers are doing the work of teaching in their former colleges.

In the year 2022-23, the guest lecturer had filed a petition in the High Court for the protection of his post. Hearing this, the court had directed the state government to make a policy for the appointment of guest lecturers. The state government made a new policy regarding the appointment of guest lecturers, under which an advertisement has been issued for new appointment in their place. This is also affecting those guest lecturers who have got relief from the High Court under the previous order and are teaching in colleges on the basis of the stay order of the court.
