Jaguar and Land Rover are struggling to recover from a major cyberattack that has shut down production at their global facilities for several weeks. The attack on September 1st has significantly impacted all areas of the brand, leading to production shutdowns, disruption of parts ordering, and retail operations. The financial impact is estimated at Rs 60 crore per day. Initially, the attack affected the dealerships, which were unable to book vehicles. The company responded by shutting down its systems to address the issue. The hacker group Scattered Lapsus$ has taken responsibility for the attack. This group previously targeted the Marks and Spencer retail chain.

JLR is currently working on repairing its systems, but a specific timeline for recovery is not yet available. Production is not expected to resume until at least September 24. JLR has confirmed that customer data was compromised, prompting police and cybersecurity experts to intervene and assist with recovery. The production shutdown is disrupting JLR’s supply chain, potentially leading to financial difficulties for suppliers. Aston Martin’s CEO warned about potential layoffs. The hackers exploited a known vulnerability in the third-party SAP NetWeaver software used for internal operations. Although the hackers claim to have acquired customer data, the extent of the breach and whether a ransom was demanded remain unconfirmed.
