A dire warning has been issued regarding Bangladesh’s security status, with Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, alleging that the country is now a sanctuary for terrorists. He claims that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is operating with impunity, and crucially, that recent attacks in Delhi are connected to militants harbored in Bangladesh. Wazed stated that the current government has released tens of thousands of militants who were imprisoned during his mother’s leadership.

According to Wazed, LeT’s operations in Bangladesh are directly linked to facilitating terror incidents in Delhi, suggesting a significant shift in the regional security dynamic. He also implicated Pakistan’s ISI, claiming the intelligence agency provided arms to militants involved in violent protests last year, with video evidence allegedly supporting this assertion.

Speaking about the legal challenges facing Sheikh Hasina, Wazed dismissed them as a “sham” and undemocratic. He cited the illegal termination of judges, unconstitutional legislative changes, and the barring of her legal team as proof of a compromised judicial process, which would prevent any legitimate extradition. Wazed thanked Prime Minister Modi for his mother’s timely evacuation from Bangladesh, which he believes saved her life from an assassination attempt.

He further criticized the unelected interim government for its prolonged, undemocratic rule and the alleged imprisonment of thousands of political detainees without trial. While acknowledging that corruption existed in Bangladesh, Wazed argued that the country saw considerable development under Sheikh Hasina. The implications of these allegations are profound for India’s national security interests in the region.
