Two elderly men lost their lives in an arson attack at a mosque in Peacehaven, Britain, on Saturday night. The police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The two men, the mosque chairman and his companion, were inside having tea after the evening prayers when the attack occurred. Footage from CCTV cameras showed the attackers attempting to open the mosque door and then setting fire to the door, floor, and the chairman’s taxi by pouring petrol. This act of violence has triggered a wave of fear and worry among the Muslim community. The local volunteer manager stated that this sort of violence was new, despite previous minor incidents of vandalism and abuse. This has led to heightened security measures around the mosque and surrounding areas.
