Three convicted prisoners have made a daring escape from the high-security Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, leading to an urgent statewide alert and extensive search efforts. The breakout occurred on Wednesday from JP Jail, a facility known for its stringent security protocols. Jail Superintendent Chandrashekhar Suman verified the incident and stated that initial reports identify the escapees as residents of Dhanbad. Law enforcement agencies are being provided with their profiles to expedite their recapture.
The discovery of the escape took place during a routine inmate census. Prison staff realized three individuals were missing and initiated an immediate search within the jail. When the prisoners could not be found within the facility, local police and district administration were notified, escalating the situation to a high alert. The jail compound and surrounding areas were secured, and search teams were deployed to investigate potential hiding spots.
Police forces in surrounding districts have been alerted, and additional checkpoints have been established to prevent the convicts from leaving the area.
