Hazaribagh Transport Sector Under Scrutiny: Labor Superintendent Issues Directives

The Labor Superintendent of Hazaribagh held a crucial meeting with passenger vehicle and transport operators on July 8th. The meeting aimed to address labor standards and ensure the welfare of workers in the transportation sector. Labor Superintendent Anil Ranjan issued significant instructions to the operators. A major point of discussion was the need to provide workers with the correct wages and other essential facilities. Non-compliance would result in legal action against bus and other vehicle operators as well as transport companies. The meeting focused on several issues concerning the workers in the transport industry. The guidelines issued by the Labor Superintendent included adherence to the Motor Transport Workers Act of 1961, which stipulates that workers like drivers and helpers are entitled to an eight-hour workday. In addition, the wages must be paid into the workers’ bank accounts by the 7th of every month, in line with the Payment of Wages Act of 1936. The Labor Superintendent noted instances of unfair practices towards workers, highlighting the importance of following guidelines, including those set by the Supreme Court. Additionally, the directives strictly prohibit any involvement of minors in transport-related operations. Operators also used the opportunity to raise concerns and express their problems.
