Rain‑Driven Health Risks Prompt Gujarat to Bolster Disease Surveillance

Gandhinagar, July 7 – Continuous downpours have intensified the challenge for Gujarat’s public health system. Minister Praful Panjsharia announced that the state’s health network is fully mobilised after two child fatalities linked to the Chandipura virus were recorded in Godhra taluka.

Emergency response squads have been sent to the villages, where they are sampling water, inspecting homes and spraying insecticidal fog to curb the spread of the virus. The minister highlighted that all primary health centres and community health facilities now hold a surplus of anti‑venom doses and other critical drugs needed during the monsoon season.

In addition to vector‑borne threats, the health department has distributed treatment kits for diarrhoeal diseases, fever and other seasonal infections to every health outpost. Stand‑by medical units are prepared to move instantly to any district that reports an outbreak, ensuring rapid containment and care.
