State health teams reach 65 million residents in house‑to‑house vector surveillance

As part of Gujarat's intensified vector control initiative, more than 19,500 health squads have trekked through urban and rural neighborhoods, conducting door‑to‑door visits. The outreach has touched over 65.1 million citizens, checking for fever symptoms and collecting blood samples for malaria testing.

During the second phase of the statewide survey, health workers identified 28 additional malaria cases, each receiving immediate free therapy. The expansive coverage aims to curb the spread of mosquito‑borne diseases during the monsoon, when transmission risk spikes.

The campaign operates under the National Vector‑Borne Disease Control Programme, guided by the chief minister and health ministry. Continuous monitoring at daily, weekly and monthly intervals helps authorities adapt strategies quickly.

In addition to field surveillance, the department has set up rapid‑response labs in 42 medical colleges, ensuring swift processing of dengue and chikungunya specimens. Public awareness drives using social and print media complement the on‑ground efforts.
