Chief Minister Hemant Soren has proposed a forward-thinking initiative to integrate green technology into Jharkhand’s education sector. During a meeting with representatives from the Sweden-India Business Council (SIBC) in Ranchi, the CM requested a comprehensive feasibility report on the introduction of e-cycles for government school students. Currently, the state government provides traditional bicycles to lakhs of students every year to ensure they can access schools in remote regions. By transitioning to e-cycles, the government aims to enhance the safety and convenience of student travel while promoting environmental sustainability from a young age.

The SIBC delegation, led by Cecilia Oldne, welcomed the proposal and agreed to provide technical and strategic support. The requested report will evaluate the logistics, cost-effectiveness, and safety parameters required to scale such a project across the state. In addition to the e-cycle initiative, the meeting covered broader economic goals, including the upcoming April roundtable dedicated to urban mobility and green infrastructure. The Chief Minister highlighted that Jharkhand is ready to adopt global best practices to improve public service delivery. The collaboration between Sweden and Jharkhand is expected to create a blueprint for sustainable development that bridges the gap between industrial growth and social welfare.
