Marking a new era in rail travel, PM Narendra Modi flagged off the inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper train, India’s first high-speed overnight service. The event, held virtually, celebrates indigenous innovation and positions India as a global rail manufacturing hub.

Running between Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi and Dehradun, the train covers 304 km in under six hours at peak speeds of 160 kmph. It comprises 10 sleeper coaches with 72 berths each, equipped with advanced climate control, reading lights, and direct aisle access for convenience.

What sets it apart are features like the Train Collision Avoidance System (KAVACH), fire detection alarms, and eco-friendly bio-toilets. The aerodynamic exterior and insulated interiors ensure quiet, smooth rides even at high velocities. Produced at ICF Chennai, it embodies Atmanirbhar Bharat.

During the flag-off, Modi emphasized its impact: ‘This train will connect dreams to destinations overnight.’ He linked it to broader infra upgrades, including dedicated freight corridors and station redevelopment.

Early feedback from trial passengers lauds the spacious berths and quick service. Fares are competitive, with AC-3 Tier tickets priced accessibly. The launch paves the way for sleeper Vande Bharats on routes like Mumbai-Goa and Chennai-Bengaluru.

With this milestone, Indian Railways edges closer to its 2027 goal of 100 such trains, promising safer, faster, and more luxurious travel for all.
