The Delhi Premier League (DPL), established in 2024 by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), has become a dynamic domestic T20 league in India. Its purpose is to offer young cricketers a space to showcase their abilities. Manjit Singh, a DDCA director, acknowledged Rohan Jaitley’s contribution as a key figure behind the league’s foundation. The league, now in its second edition, features both established professionals and emerging talent. Matches are broadcast with high-quality production, digital streaming, and extensive media coverage, mirroring the IPL format, which has grown its popularity. The DPL has been instrumental in providing opportunities for players to gain visibility. Digvesh Rathi and Priyansh Arya were identified by IPL scouts through DPL performances, which led to their success on a national stage. The current season’s expansion with new teams has increased the number of opportunities for young cricketers. The league includes eight teams: Purani Dilli 6, North Delhi Strikers, South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, West Delhi Lions, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, and Outer Delhi Warriors. The 2025 DPL features top players such as Nitish Rana, Harshit Rana, Lalit Yadav, Priyansh Arya, and Digvesh Rathi, fresh from their 2025 IPL season. The league has a strong following, attracting large crowds, with the previous final drawing over 22,000 attendees, a record for a state-level league in India.
