Dr. Manoj V Murhekar, a scientist and director at ICMR-NIE, presented the findings of a recent study indicating that COVID-19 vaccines were not associated with sudden deaths. The research included a large number of participants, comparing those who experienced sudden deaths with a control group, and found no correlation between vaccination and such incidents. The study suggested that COVID-19 vaccination provided a degree of protection against sudden deaths. Furthermore, the study identified other risk factors such as a history of severe COVID-19, hospitalization due to COVID-19, unaccustomed exercise before death, binge drinking, and a family history of sudden deaths.

This comes as Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah raised concerns about recent heart-related deaths in Hassan. Murhekar referenced the ICMR study conducted 1.5 years ago, which did not find any link between the vaccine and these types of deaths. He also mentioned the Karnataka government’s expert committee investigating the cause of the deaths.
