The IMD has issued a weather update indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall across numerous Indian states. The monsoon’s impact is expected to be felt in East, North, West, and Central India, potentially causing travel problems and raising the risk of flooding. The public is urged to exercise caution and only venture out when essential. High alert has been issued for Uttarakhand and several northeastern states. Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and North Interior Karnataka are expected to witness widespread monsoon activity. Telangana will experience heavy rainfall on the 21st and 22nd, while Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam will be affected from the 24th to the 26th. The Met Department has also warned of strong surface winds, with speeds of 30-40 kmph, in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, until September 23. Significant rainfall is also anticipated in Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra over the next 4 to 5 days. Intense showers are expected in specific areas of southwest Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Residents are advised against unnecessary travel to Chhattisgarh between September 24th and 26th, and to Odisha from September 23rd to 26th. Cyclonic circulation is likely to enhance rainfall activity in these states.
