A bilateral meeting took place between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Delhi on August 18, 2025. Wang Yi’s visit was at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval. Jaishankar emphasized to Wang Yi the importance of addressing border issues, and the role they play in the overall relationship between the two countries. He noted that maintaining peace and stability in the border regions is essential for positive momentum in their ties, as well as the importance of de-escalation. The meeting also covered international affairs, reflecting the significance of the two nations involved. Jaishankar advocated for a fair and balanced multipolar world order, including a multipolar Asia. Reform of multilateralism, maintaining economic stability, and the fight against terrorism were also discussed.
Wang Yi spoke about maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas, along with the resumption of the Indian pilgrimage to Mount Gang Renpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso. He expressed shared confidence in expanding cooperation to strengthen the positive trajectory of the China-India relationship. This would enable mutual contribution to each other’s success and provide certainty to Asia and the world. The 24th round of Special Representatives’ (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary question, between Wang Yi and NSA Doval, was planned as part of the visit.
