India and Ghana Forge Stronger Bonds: PM Modi Awarded Highest Civilian Honor

During an official visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Ghana’s highest civilian award, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, by President John Dramani Mahama. This honor recognized his exceptional statesmanship and global influence. PM Modi acknowledged the award on behalf of the Indian people, dedicating it to the nation’s youth, cultural heritage, and the historical connections between Ghana and India. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation across key sectors, including agriculture, education, defence, and healthcare, with a focus on digital payments. India will also double the ITEC and ICCR scholarships available to Ghanaians. PM Modi announced that India plans to establish a Skill Development Centre and assist in Ghana’s ‘Feed Ghana’ program. The goal is to double trade between the two nations within five years, coupled with the introduction of the Bharat UPI system. This visit marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between India and Ghana, reinforcing India’s commitment to Africa and the Global South.
