External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio today in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The agenda includes discussions on improving the relationship between the two nations, amidst existing challenges.

The meeting will be the first since the US imposed tariffs, which have caused tension. Tariffs on Indian goods, along with additional duties due to Russian oil imports, have created a strain. Additionally, the rise in H-1B visa fees has created difficulties for Indian workers and companies in the United States.

Furthermore, both sides have restarted stalled trade talks, and Trump has expressed confidence in reaching an agreement. This meeting coincides with Finance and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal leading a delegation to the US for trade discussions on Monday.
